1953 SPECIAL #16 Del Kuhn on HD at Crater Camp - CopyThe purpose of this website is to share the personal recollections and memorabilia collections of Del Kuhn, one of the top Southern California off-road motorcycle riders of the 1940s-1950s. Though born in 1925, he clearly remembers his “motorcycle days” like it was yesterday. Del rode motorcycles competitively from 1947-1954.

He was honored to be inducted in 1998 to the Trailblazers M/C Hall of Fame and in 2003, the American Motorcycle Association (AMA) Hall of Fame.

For more details about his motorcycle racing achievements, please look in the ABOUT section.

Though many other riders and events came before the 1940s, the sequence of events of the 1940s-1950s opened the way for what is known today as the modern day Motocross. Thus the name, “The Grandfathers of Motocross,” fits this group of riders appropriately. Many of those fine riders went on to be inducted into the American Motorcycle Association Hall of Fame and/or Trailblazers MC Hall of Fame. This website is designed to remember them and the unsung riders that Del Kuhn knew casually or had friendships with. Our commitment is to honor those Grandfathers of Motocross.

We plan to add to this website as time permits as there is much to share from Del’s vintage memorabilia collection and his recollections.

Again welcome and enjoy!
Del and Vicky Kuhn
